I cant imagine that you could get that much for it given its reputation. It was as if the gun was not quite finished and the dealer called it a gunsmith special I guess it would be worth the price if someone were to buy it and finish it where the factory left off. The Auto Ordinance 1911 like the Thompson had a lot of tool marks and sharp edges. I had also looked at one of their 1911s and the build quality of that was not much better when I compared it to the Colt 1911 which I had at the time and still have. I bought it in 1982 and sold it soon after.
So my questions: Are the pre Kahr 1911s really any good What would the reasonable value be if its in excellent-barely used condition (with some If not, what is the major problem with them If the AO 1911s from West Hurley NY is better than the Kahr 1911s, then why is that so BOTTOM LINE: What is the general consensus of the Pre Kahr 1911s I had an Auto Ordinance Model 1928 Thompson semi auto carbine that was made in West Hurley N.Y. One dealer provided me with some info based on the serial number that it was made between 20, but Im finding out that is not accurate. I DID CHECK to ensure it wasnt stolen before I bought it.ITS NOT.Īnd Im trying regarding this gun, but what is available is very limited and does not give any real info on when it was actually made, etc. There have apparently been a few modifications made to the gun I have so that might be it, but I cant attest to the modifications other than those that are readily visible like the rear sights, etc., as I bought it off a guy who says he won it in a raffle.
Its interesting to learn about, and from my limited use of the gun, Ive found it to be rather reliable and accurate, havent had any of the issues Ive read about. I have also heard a number of people state that the Pre Kahr 1911 was the better gun if the serial number was below 50000. That said, Ive been doing some research since I intended to trade it for another gun (a revolver - Taurus Judge 3 45lc410 chambered for 3 rounds).īut in doing the research I hear lots of bad things about the Pre Kahr 1911s and cant find anything on when it was made.Īnd condition seems to have some impact but mostly the price seems to be based on the reputation of the gun itself.
The AO and S serial number prefix letters were used on the WWII 1928 model Thompsons. None of the WWII M1 or M1A1 Thompsons have letters such as AO or S preceding the serial number. My question is this. Are here any WWII production auto ordnance M1s made that did not have the AO prefix before the serial number Thanks in advance, and looking forward to joining a great group. is owned by, Inc., Orem UT - All Rights Reserved.
